The area of Hawthorndene is semi rural complimented with the modern facilities of surburbia.  This makes it an attractive place to live and work.

In general the students of Hawthorndene Primary School live in a stable, homogeneous community, which places great value in their children's education, their natural surroundings and lifestyle.  The school is a focal point for its community.  By and large the students are a happy, confident and creative group with a caring and courteous attitude towards others.

The staff is caring, experienced, skilled, knowledgeable, creative and adaptable.  This is reflected in the quality of the classroom and support programs that exist.  These along with the comprehensive Performing Arts, Instrumental Music & Sports programs which contribute significantly to the school’s culture, are highly valued by the whole school community.  Students requiring support are identified and catered for through the schools Early Intervention strategy.  Students With High Intellectual Potential are provided with opportunities through participation & involvement in school performances, instrumental music & choir as well as supportive classroom methodologies and programs such as the Tournament of Minds.

The school's high quality Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) & Vacation Care (VACOS) programs which are conducted on the school site provide an invaluable service to the school and wider community. 

The outlook of the school and its facilities are certainly an asset, fitting in well with its surrounds.  Future efforts will need to ensure that these are not only maintained but also developed and improved to reflect the needs of modern approaches to teaching and learning and to serve its community.
